In general, if a driver is uninstalled and the hardware left unchanged, would the driver install during the next boot? Would that also apply to a video controller that is part of the motherboard?
Now take the case where one uninstalls the motherboard video driver, shuts down, and inserts an AGP or PCI based video card. What happens in this case in terms of drivers?
Also, will a video card generally operate in a lower level basic mode even without a driver installed?
The reason I am asking is that recent versions of Linux based on Ubuntu do not support the SIS 661FX video on my motherboard. I will need to add a supported video card.
System is nine year old WinXP desktop with Gigabyte GA-8S661FXM-775 motherboard and Celeron D processor.
